ABOUT THE CAPE FEAR MUSEUM --- Founded in 1898, the Cape Fear Museum of History and Science is the oldest history museum in North Carolina. Cape FearMuseum collects, preserves and interprets objects relating to the history, science, and cultures of the Lower Cape Fear. The Museum makes those objects and their interpretation available to the public through educational exhibitions and programs.
The oldest items in the collection are Native American artifacts from the Archaic period (8000 BCE to 1000 BCE). The bulk of the collection spans the 17th through 21st centuries, with a heavy concentration in the 20th century.
